What’s new regarding the Haywood Regional Medical Center implosion?

New, tangible information about the status of our local hospital, Haywood Regional Medical Center, in the midst of the Medicare/Medicaid implosion, is scarce right now, but there is no lack of discussion wherever I go. Progress continues, day in and day out, in HRMC ’s efforts to regain Medicare/Medicaid status as quickly as possible.
What are the HRMC Doctors saying?
Do you think the Hospital will be able to eventually command the necessary respect to prosper on its own, or is new ownership the answer? Here is what some of the doctors are saying:
““Physicians and the community won’t let this hospital fold,” said Dr. David Markoff, “but there are a lot of well-run big hospital systems. Maybe this don’t have to buy it, but maybe help us run it for a year.”
Mina, however, had lingering concerns about the community perception of the hospital if there wasn’t a change of ownership.
“It could take years to bring back the trust of the community,” he said. “If another hospital took over or there was some type of joint venture, perhaps the public would trust another name with some experience on the door. But that’s up to the hospital board and the county commissioners.”

This morning I am writing from the Hilton Hotel in Atlanta where I am attending the RE TECH South Seminar with many of the major real estate blogging gurus. Boy, do I feel lucky!
Comparing homes on the market once again in Haywood County, NC as opposed to homes that have gone into escrow below provides a pretty good indication of the activity so far during March (’limited’ comes to mind). It is apparent in the pricing of active listings (also below) that pricing of homes in Haywood County remains too high to stimulate buyers, and all the while, our inventory of homes on the market continues to creep higher.

Haywood County, NC - Real Estate Information - 03/25/08

The inventory of homes on the market in Haywood County, NC in March increased by 5% (48 homes) since March 1, 2008. There are 8 homes in escrow for the period of March 1 through March 25, 2008, and there are 1,026 homes for sale Haywood County this morning according to our MLS. The absorption rate as of today’s numbers is 22.36 months.
The Wall Street Journal featured an article this morning entitled “Wave of Foreclosures Drives Prices Lower, Lures Buyers.”
“A glut of foreclosed homes is starting to drive down U.S. home prices as lenders put more properties on the market and buyers show signs of interest.”
